world visionOptician Tuula Kapanen sharing the donated glassesSee You in Kenya –collection helps people to see
Thursday, 25 June, 2009
Over 20 000 spectacles and sunglasses have already been collected for the See You in Kenya-collection in Finland. The collection will continue through the summer. The greatest demand is on sunglasses and reading glasses.
The fruits of the collection will be taken to Kenya's Meibeki region in August and handed over to those in need. It will be the third vision care trip of the international development organization World Vision Finland together with a group of opticians.
In addition to private people looking through their drawers and cupboards for old glasses, several companies and associations have also taken part in the good cause.
- We have a lost-and-found box full of spectacles and sunglasses. Nobody has missed them since last summer, so when we found out about the collection we decided that Kenya is definitely the right destination for the glasses, tells Katja Parola from Kaustinen Folk Music Festival.
Those who have lost their glasses in the previous summer festivals can now be happy for having contributed to this good cause.
If there are still unwanted spectacles and sunglasses floating around, they can be donated to the collection at any point during the summer. The donations will be received by all Cazze and Synsam opticians all over Finland.
