Wednesday, 31 March, 2010
Rautaruukki OyjOslo Opera House has also been reinforced by Ruukki’s steel structures.Rautaruukki has been chosen as the steel structure contractor for the new head office of financial services group DnB NOR and for the construction project of Stravanger’s new concert hall. The total value of the two contracts is around 8 million euros.
The building of DnB NOR's new head office in Oslo is expected to be completed by 2012. The building will be exceptional for its honeycombed, multiportal structure. Rautaruukki received the order from Oslos S Utvikling AS together with Spenncon, which will provide the prefabricated concrete elements.
– Compatibility of the steel frame and other structures in this architecturally ambitious 17-storey building places special demands on the design of the steel frame structures, says Project Director Øystein O. Ylvisåker from Oslos S Utvikling AS.
The frame structure of the entire building will be optimised by Rautaruukki in close cooperation with Spenncon. Rautaruukki is responsible for the design, manufacture, installation and fire protection of the steel frame. For the first time in Norway, the project also utilises large diameter RD drilled piles, which are installed by drilling. The piles have been developed by Rautaruukki. Thanks to the new method fewer piles are required and the installation work is sped up. The pile casing serves as a drilling pipe during installation and as part of the load-bearing pile structure in the finished project.
The steel frame structures will be manufactured at Rautaruukki's units in Peräseinäjoki and Ylivieska in Finland and in Balabanovo in Russia. The deliveries will commence in May 2010.
In the Stavanger concert hall project, Rautaruukki is responsible for the manufacturing, fabrication design, installation and fire protection of the steel frame. The assignment has been commissioned by the Nytt konserthus i Stavanger consortium established by the City of Stavanger and the county of Rogaland. The frame structures will be manufactured at Rautaruukki's unit in Peräseinäjoki, Finland and deliveries will begin in April 2010.
Rautaruukki operates in 27 countries and employs 11 700 people. The company uses the marketing name Ruukki.
