Finnish innovation unfolding
Openness, customer oriented approach and networking are the keywords of Finland’s renewed innovation politics. Science and technology-centeredness have been replaced by broad, demand and user-oriented innovation politics. New types of procedures for encouraging innovation are currently discussed in companies, at regional level and nationwide.
So that new innovations could be born, a favourable growth platform for them must be established. This work is being carried out actively in different parts of the country, with the effort of developers of innovation environments. Good innovation environment supports openness and the establishment of new contacts, encourages to succeed and at the same time, allows failure. It brings out individuals and creates a foundation for cooperation.
Innovations are the fruits of cooperation. In a boundless world the creation of innovations requires ever wider networks where different information, skills and needs can meet each other. This work has managed to cross boundaries between different organizations, sectors and regions in our country.
The skill of working together is a resource for the whole country. This skill is currently being developed for instance at the nationwide Centre of Expertise Programme with joint effort from 13 national competence clusters.
Both, innovations and their development work are very much about the will of individual people to see possibilities and overcome obstacles. Although development is a team sport, the role of individuals is also important. The birth of an innovation positive culture is something that each one of us can influence with our own actions.
