Outotec has agreed with South African Kalagadi Manganese Pty Ltd on the design and delivery of a new manganese sinter plant to be built in Hotazel in the country's Northern Cape Province. The contract value is approximately 119 million euros.
Fifty percent of Kalagadi Manganese is owned by the world's largest steel producer, ArcelorMittal. Other owners are Kalahari Resources by 40 percent and IDC by 10 percent shares.
Outotec is responsible for the delivery of the sinter plant on a turnkey basis including engineering, project management, supply of all equipment and structural steel, construction, commissioning as well as advisory services for the construction work.
Once in operation, the new plant will produce an annual amount of 2.4 million tons of sinter. Manganese ore sinter is used as raw material for the production of high carbon ferromanganese. The plant is scheduled to be opened in March 2012.
