A Buddhist temple being built in the Chounbri province of Thailand will lay its concrete foundation with lean duplex reinforcement bars manufactured by the Finnish stainless steel company Outokumpu. The aim of the developers is to build a temple with as long a lifetime as possible. The local community has wished for a temple, which would serve them for over a thousand years.

The temple is expected to be completed by 2012. Stainless steel, instead of the more commonly used carbon steel, was chosen for the temple’s structure, because stainless steel can meet the long lifespan demands of the structure.

In addition to providing technical customer care, Outokumpu has provided the building project an extensive service pack. Outokumpu’s Singaporean building industry expert Nick Tan says that the reinforcement product pack has consisted of over 90 different meter specifications and over 22 300 lean duplex reinforcement bars cut according to extremely strict tolerance.

Outokumpu Lean Duplex grade LDX 2101 has been used also in a number of other projects, where long structural lifetime has been required. For instance the corrosion critical structures of the Gateway Bridge in Brisbane, Australia, with a designed lifespan of 300 years, have been reinforced by Outokumpu Lean Duplex LDX 2101 stainless steel reinforcement bars.

Outokumpu is an internationally leading manufacturer of stainless steel and the world’s biggest producer of specialty steel. Outokumpu is also a leading product developer and manufacturer of lean duplex reinforcement bars.
