Wärtsilä supplies a floating power plant to the Dominican Republic
WärtsiläThe plant will supply energy to the national grid and it runs on natural gas. The scope of supply includes six Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines with all accessories. The order was placed by the US based Seabord Corporation.
– To be able to supply a combined cycle power plant that fits in a barge 104 meters long and 32 meters wide is not only remarkable, it is almost certainly the first of its scope in the industry. We guarantee that the plant will have an exceptionally high efficiency. Our ability to meet these challenging demands, together with our broad experience in gas fuelled operation were the key reasons in us being awarded this contract, tells Sampo Suvisaari, Wärtsilä General Manager, Power Plants, Central America and the Caribbean.
Wärtsilä has a strong presence in the Dominican Republic, with previously installed power generating equipment in operation. The company has delivered a total of 25 power barges to the Caribbean and Asia with a total installed capacity of about 1400 megawatts.
