Wärtsilä delivers power modules for FPSO vessel in Brazil

Wärtsilä The power system of QUIP’s new FPSO vessels will consist of three power modules.
Finnish leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets, Wärtsilä has signed a contract with the Brazilian industrial group QUIP to supply three main power modules for a new P-63 Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

The contract includes three power modules, their start-up and operational supervision. The vessel is unique in that it will be the first FPSO to utilize gas engines to produce more than 100 MWe of power.

According to Wärtsilä’s press release the levels of carbon emissions of the 100 mega-watt vessel will be reduced by as much as 93,000 tons per year when compared to vessels operated on conventional power modules. Wärtsilä engines can run on treated well gas or treated crude, as well as marine diesel oil. Thanks to Wärtsilä’s multi-fuel technology the operating costs and carbon emissions can be reduced significantly.

The power modules will be ready for installation in July 2011 and oil production is scheduled to begin in 2013. The vessel will operate on Brazil’s new Papa Terra oilfield, located some 110 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
