Wärtsilä alleviates Bangladesh’s energy crisis
Wärtsilä Wärtsilä delivered its first equipment to Khulna already in 1997. The two new contracts included, Wärtsilä’s generating capacity in Bangladesh is already 600 megawatts.Wärtsilä, a global supplier of decentralised power plant solutions, has received equipment orders for two new power plants in Bangladesh. These two new power plants will add significant generating capacity to the country's national grid. The total value of the two contracts is approximately 68 million euro.
Summit Naryanganj Power Co. Ltd has ordered Wärtsilä 46GD gas-diesel engines and auxiliary equipment for its Naryanganj power plant project. The engines can run on a variety of fuels, gases or combinations of liquid fuel and gas
– The ability to switch effortlessly from heavy fuel oils to gas was a key factor throughout the negotiations of the Narynaganj project, says Göran Richardsson, Business Development Manager for Bangladesh, Wärtsilä Power Plants.
Wärtsilä's other power plant order, including Wärtsilä 46 engines and auxiliary equipment, was received for Khulna Power Unit Ltd's extension project. Due to Bangladesh's difficult energy situation, both orders are being handled on a fast-track basis. The power plants are scheduled to be in operation as early as March 2011.
