Vacon doubles its production in China

Vacon, the Finnish company manufacturing frequency converters will build a new factory in Suzhou, China. The extension will double the company's capacity in China.

The factory, which will begin its production in the beginning of next year will double Vacon's Chinese capacity to approximately 300 000 converters per year. The production line of the current factory will be transferred to the new premises once the construction is finalized. Vacon began its operations in Suzhou over five years ago. Two years ago the company transferred also some of its product development operations to China.

The Chinese market for frequency converters has grown with an annual rate of 13-14 per cent, albeit the country's economical growth has slowed down. In global markets the growth has averaged to ten per cent, writes Metallitekniikka (Metal Technology)-magazine.

The company's deliveries to the Asia-Pacific region increased by over 50 per cent last year. Elevators and cranes are a major market for frequency converters. Increasing use of wind power, energy cutbacks and investments in green technology promise growth also in the future. Frequency converters are also used in different kinds of power plants.

Vacon, company based in the Finnish west coast town of Vaasa, has a four per cent share of the world's frequency converter market. With that number Vacon is among the ten most significant converter manufacturers in the world. The market leader is Swedish-Swiss ABB.
