The United States Department of Defense has placed a 50 million euro contract with Cargotec for its light capability rough terrain forklift (LCRTF) trucks.
The order’s been booked through Cargotec's Kalmar Rough Terrain Center (KRTC) in Cibolo, Texas, and it includes a delivery of 766 forklift trucks from July 2013 onwards.
The order is part of a deal signed between KRTC and the US Department of Defense in 2011. It follows deals signed in 2011 and 2012, taking the total on order now to 913.
The Kalmar RT-022 LCRTF is the second model purpose-built for the US Department of Defense by the Kalmar Rough Terrain Center - with the Kalmar RT-240 rough terrain container handler (RTCH) already in operation.
— The LCRTF model has been designed to operate perfectly in tandem with the larger RTCH, with the combination providing a complete materials handling solution for operation in the field, says Bryan Stephens, President of Kalmar Rough Terrain Center.
The LCRTF is designed for loading and unloading containers, railcars and tactical vehicles.
Cargotec says the LCRTF has sufficient mobility to operate on the various types of terrain found in military and peace-keeping operations including areas where high flotation and traction characteristics are needed.
