University of Jyväskylä establishes new cooperation in St. Petersburg
Lehtikuva/Heikki Saukkomaa The University of Jyväskylä wants to deepen cooperation with its international partners.The University of Jyväskylä and Steklov Institute of Mathematics in St. Petersburg have signed a cooperation agreement on establishing a centre for applied mathematics. The aim of the novel cooperation project is to increase the exchange of researchers and post-graduate students between the two universities, and join forces in organizing international conferences and other scientific events. The Finnish participants in the initiative come from the University of Jyväskylä faculties of Mathematics and Science and Information Technology.
The jointly run centre will serve a purpose of increasing theoretical research and developing training programs in the fields of mathematical and scientific computation. The aim is also to increase cooperation between the post-Soviet states and the EU countries especially in the Baltic region.
- One of the new internationalization objectives of the University of Jyväskylä is to establish deepening cooperation with our most important international partners. Establishing a joint initiative with such a respectable partner as Steklov Institute of Mathematics will definitely be a forerunner in this kind of cooperation, says Rector of the University of Jyväskylä, Aino Sallinen.
