Kesko Kesko is a retail specialist whose stores offer quality to the daily lives of consumers. Kesko has about 2,000 stores engaged in chain operations in the Nordic and Baltic countries, Russia, and Belarus. The Global Compact Office that operates under the United Nations Secretary-General applauds Kesko for outstanding communication on progress. Kesko's Global Compact communication is included in Kesko's corporate responsibility reporting for 2008.
Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan launched the Global Compact Initiative in 2000. The initiative includes ten principles for advancing human rights, labour rights, the environment and anti-corruption in the operations of the companies and their purchase chains.
By the end of June 2009, nearly 7,000 organisations throughout the world have committed themselves to the Global Compact Initiative. Most of them - over 5,000 - are companies. In addition to Kesko, there are currently 14 Finnish business participants.
- Kesko is the first Finnish company whose communication on progress has received the recognition 'notable'. By the end of June 2009, only five recognitions have been given worldwide this year, so we are very proud of this acknowledgement to the work done, says Ulla Rehell, Kesko's Assistant Vice President, Corporate Responsibility.
