The world’s largest luxury cruise ship sets sail across the Atlantic

Passengers of Oasis can practice rock climbing and enjoy outdoors concerts.

Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest and most revolutionary cruise ship has set sail for its transatlantic crossing, sailing all the way from Turku, Finland to Florida's Fort Lauderdale.

The ship departed Turku at 7am on October 30th with Captain William S. Wright at the helm. The expected arrival into Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale is on November 11th. Oasis of the Seas' inaugural sailing takes place after official unveiling and naming ceremonies in December.

The world's largest cruise ship Oasis is 360 meters long and over 70 meters high. It can accommodate over 6000 passengers, and a crew of nearly 2000. The luxury cruise ship offers versatile entertainment to its passengers, ranging from rock climbing wall, theatre, Central Park and a FlowRider surf simulator.

The construction of Oasis, which is owned by the Royal Caribbean - shipping company, has employed a significant number of people in Turku region. Nearly 900 companies have been involved in the project. The luxury cruise ship is estimated to value 900 million Euros, which means that it is the most expensive cruise ship in the entire world.

Eleven of the over twenty luxury cruise ships owned by the Royal Caribbean International have been built in Finland. Oasis' sister ship Allure of the Seas is currently under construction at Turku harbor. It is expected to be completed next year.
