The evolution of stick-based exercise

Gymstick International
Finnish company Gymstick International Oy’s family of exercise equipment has developed over recent years into a number of keep fit and wellness concepts. Set up by fitness professionals in 2003, the company has already been producing and developing fitness equipment for both enthusiasts and professionals for seven years now.

To start with, the company focused on taking familiar fitness equipment to a new level.

- The Gymstick serves as the starting point for our range of products and it can justifiably be called an evolution of exercise sticks, notes Gymstick International Py’s Managing Director Risto Kasurinen.

- Since its inception, the Gymstick concept has expanded into a complete product range of exercise tools and we have our own ranges for home use as well as for professional use.

In addition to the products themselves, the Gymstick concept includes a training programme for professionals which allows the concept to be introduced, for example, into fitness centres.  Gymstick products today are exported to more than 30 countries and over half the company’s turnover comes from exports. Mr Kasurinen believes there is a continued bright outlook for the exercise and wellness section.

The wellness business will grow strongly in the near future. People are no longer physically active in their work, so you need to address your body’s wellbeing with exercise. He also expects an increase in the popularity of home-based exercise in the future.

The potential for home-based exercise will shortly be expanded with the addition to the Gymstick range of the new Chairgym concept that can be attached to a chair to allow exercise and resistance training even while seated. The new concept will make it easier to exercise, for example for the elderly or those with restricted mobility.

Our summer series introduces interesting and innovative companies from all over Finland.
