Teknoware illuminates emergency exits on board the world’s biggest cruise ship
TeknowareTeknoware, a Lahti-based international lighting technology company, which designs, manufactures and markets solutions for vehicle interior lighting and emergency lighting for buildings and passenger ships, delivers tailor-made emergency exit luminaires to the world's largest luxury cruise ship, the Oasis of the Seas. The company equipped the cruise ship with more than 2500 LED luminaires which indicate emergency exits on board. The building of the 361-metre long and 66-metre wide Oasis of the Seas was finalized in the end of October at the Port of Turku.
- As usual, the schedule for delivering the luminaries was extremely challenging, says Business Unit Director for Teknoware, Jari Tabell. In 2009-2010 Teknoware will deliver LED emergency exit lights also for the Allure of the Seas, the sister ship of the Oasis of the Seas.
LED lights are cost efficient, require only little maintenance and unlike fluorescent tubes, the LEDs do not contain any toxic waste.
The biggest single contract that Teknoware ever signed was for the United Arab Emirates, where the company delivered lighting for a metro which was opened in September. The contract valued about 1 million Euros. Teknoware is in the process of completing a number of deliveries to skyscrapers in the Persian Gulf Region. The company has delivered luminaries to different places ranging from the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki to the super-fast trains of Alstom, metros and ordinary buses.
In September the company opened a 3.500 square meter factory extension in Lahti. Teknoware estimates that it has saved up to a million Euros by building the extension during the economic recession. The company employs over 200 people.
