Team Finland wins second Clipper race to Rio de Janeiro

Zoe Williamson Team Finland celebrates its success after winning the second race from France to Rio de Janeiro.
Team Finland, headed by skipper Eero Lehtinen maintains its position as the leading team in the Clipper Round the World- competition. After winning the first race from Humber in England to La Rochelle in France, the team continued succesfully, winning also the second race to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Team Finland won the race by mere 25 minutes, being followed by Spirit of Australia. The third arrival, Jamaica Lightning Bolt, reached Rio de Janeiro 4 hours and 40 minutes after the Finnish team.

The second race of Clipper Round the World was challenged by gentle wind conditions. After a brisk start from La Rochelle Team Finland came near to halt near the south-eastern corner of Spain, in front of Cape Finistere. However, thanks to a brave choice of route, the team managed to sail forward and win the race.

 
The next race from Rio De Janeiro to Cape Town, South Africa will begin on Tuesday October 27th.
