Swan family the Centre of Attention in international photo competition
Peter Byrne / Photoradar.comA photograph by the amateur photographer Peter Byrne from Helsinki has received the second prize in the Digital Camera Photographer of the Year 2009- competition. The award-winning photograph belongs to the competition's Planet Earth -category. It features a cygnet sleeping securely in the comfort of its mother's plumage.
On the competition's website Byrne says that he spent five days with the particular family of swans, taking time to ensure they became used to his presence. His aim was to portray a common subject in a new and captivating light while highlighting the intimacy shared between the mother swan and the cygnet.
The competition, which has been acclaimed to be the world's biggest photography competition, is organized annually by the British Digital Camera Magazine. This year's competition received over 100,000 photographs from all over the world. The photographs in to the competition are classified into ten different categories.
All the winning photographs of this year's competition are on display on the organizer's website, as well as in the latest issue of the Digital Camera Magazine, which came out on December 15th.
