Super bull Orkko number one in the United States

Tiina Tahvonen Orkko is the first Finnish bull, which has been given a breeding evaluation in the United States.

The Finnish super bull Purolan Orkko, born in 2000, has ranked as the best bull in the entire United States basing on breeding evaluation. Orkko is the very first Finnish bull, which has been given breeding evaluation in America.

The evaluation took into consideration Orkko's 44 offsprings. On the basis of these results the Ayrshire bull ranked immediately first, indicating its high ranking in the economic breeding index NM$, leaving its followers clearly behind.

Orkko has been busy in Finland. The bull's semen has been used for over 100,000 artificial inseminations. His protein yield, fertility and structural soundness are superb. The bull is also on top of its breed in endurance. On the basis of his daughters' results Orkko's longevity index is 121, which means that his daughters continue producing milk on average 137 days longer than the female offsprings of average Ayrshire bulls.

Since 2005 over 100,000 semen doses have been exported to the US. In addition to that, artificial insemination organizations have bought male calves of Finnish bulls for semen production.
