STX Finland’s Turku yard wins order for new cruise ship

TUI Cruises has placed an order with STX Finland for a new cruise ship.  The vessel should be delivered during Spring 2014.

The project will provide employment for the STX Finland Turku yard equivalent to around 5,500 person-years.  TUI Cruises also has the option to order a second cruise ship.

According to STX, the design has an emphasis on environmentally-friendly features and on energy efficiency.  The vessel will be approximately 295 metres long and 36 metres wide.  It will have 1,250 cabins, serve 2,500 passengers and carry a crew of 1,000 persons.  The vessel will have various restaurants, a theatre, a spa, a night club and a large deck area.

STX Finland has three shipyards in Finland: the Turku yard, the Rauma yard and Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Oy of which STX Finland Oy has a 50 percent holding.  The company is part of the international STX Europe Group.
