Spotify - affordable alternative to piratism
Online music service Spotify revolutionizes music distribution on the internet. The service, which has attracted already over a million users, offers legal and free access to a huge library of music.Spotify can be operated through a programme, which can be installed easily online. The music library is located in Spotify’s servers, which are linked to computers via Internet. Tracks can be played with just one click and the audio quality is excellent.
Unlimited subscription to the service costs 10 Euros per month. The advertising-sponsored version of Spotify is free of charge, but its expenses are covered through advertisements played in between songs.
With its operation model Spotify manages to combine the wide and free distribution of music enabled by the Internet, while generating sufficient proceedings to the record companies and artists.
The service, which was founded in Sweden last October, operates in eight different countries, including Finland. The company does not disclose its exact user numbers, but in Europe the million user landmark has already been reached earlier on this year. Spotify is estimated to be used by tens of thousands of Finns.
Spotify is currently in beta-stage, but all the major record companies have already signed an agreement with the company. This means that Spotify’s users have access to millions of songs.
