Savonlinna and Kuhmo listed among the top festivals of the world

Lehtikuva / Jussi Nukari The opera performances of the Savonlinna Opere Festival take place in the main covered courtyard of the castle.

Savonlinna Opera Festival has ranked second best among the world's castle festivals, reports the Austrian Festspiele magazine. Glyndebourne ranked highest in the series. The same magazine placed Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival as the 14th on the list of the world's best festivals. The leading festivals were those of Salzburg, Bayreuth and Bregenz.

In 2003 Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival was ranked among the four best festivals in the world by the Financial Times.

The comparison was published in the second issue of this year's Festspiele magazine.

Savonlinna Opera festival continues until August 1st, while Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival ends already on July 25th.
