Saimaa Holiday is the Aquatic Tourism destination of 2010

Saimaa Holiday One of Saimaa Holiday’s assets in EDEN competition was its versatile holiday programme all year round. For instance tour skating on the late autumn Lake Saimaa has proven to be very popular.
Saimaa Holiday, located in the scenic area of Rantasalmi, Savonlinna and Linnansaari and Kolovesi National Parks, has been selected as the rising Aquatic Tourism destination in EDEN - European Destinations of Excellence competition 2010.
 
A total of 15 Finnish destinations took part in this year’s EDEN competition, which was themed ‘water’.

The jury based its decision of the winning destination to the versatile aquatic tourism services, the invocation of the local culture, sustainable practises and the readiness to operate on the international market.

According to the jury Saimaa Holiday is one of Lake Saimaa region’s most significant cooperative company network, which has the most comprehensive services programme for all seasons. In addition, Saimaa Holiday has set its commitment towards sustainable development in its cooperation with national parks.

Saimaa Holiday, together with other international winners, will be awarded this autumn at the European Tourist Forum in Brussels.

EDEN competition was held for the fourth time. Finland took part in the competition for the second time. A total of 25 EU member countries took part in this year’s competition, and from each country one destination was awarded.
