Research institute IDC predicts 11,000 new IT-jobs in Finland by 2013

Lehtikuva/Timo Jaakonaho According to research by IDC the IT-sector in Finland will employ nearly 140,000 people in 2013.

The IT-sector will create up to 11,000 new jobs in Finland by 2013, predicts the international research institute IDC. In the upcoming years employment within the IT-sector will develop much faster than overall employment in the country.

International Data Corporation, IDC was commissioned by the software giant Microsoft to investigate the effect of the IT-sector on gross national product, employment, revenue and the emergence of new companies in 52 different countries.

The IT-expenses of the countries participating in the research comprise 98 per cent of the whole world's IT-expenses.

According to the recent investigation Finland's IT-sector will employ nearly 140,000 people in 2013. In the next four years the IT-sector will host 400 new companies and 11,000 new jobs.

If the prediction is realized the number of jobs in the IT-sector will grow annually by 1,6 per cent. This contrasts the general employment trend, since Finland's overall employment is expected to decline during the same time-period, IDC points out.
