Renewable energy to energize northern Finnish households
Winwind oyMinistry of Employment and the Economy has allocated 4.95 million Euro funding for Rovaniemi Energy. The northern Finnish company will use the money for building a new fuel terminal for harvesting forest residue. The funding supports the ministry’s Energy Policy. A further funding of 1.7 million Euros was given to three wind power initiatives in northwestern region of Laitakari.
Rovaniemi Energy aims at harvesting about 2 million cubic metres of forest residue annually. The fuel produced from the forest residue in fuel terminals, would be used in the company’s power station in Suosiola and in a new power plant, which is still to be constructed. Some of the fuel would supply the local district heating centres.
Kansallistuuli Ltd. in Laitakari received funding for the building of two wind power stations. The goal is to provide all the electricity used in the apartments owned by the enterprise’s parent company, housing provider Kansallisasunnot Oy.
Ii Energy Ltd. also received funding for the implementation of the new generation WinWinD Ltd. wind power station. The new WWD-1 type of generator has been developed considering particularly areas with low wind levels, potential for mass production and international markets. The most significant innovations are the new automation system and blade reversal technique, both developed by WinWinD.
This year the Ministry of Employment and the Economy was allocated 87 million Euros for supporting renewable energy and improving energy efficiency in Finland.
