Real Snacks grows with tortilla chips

realsnacks.fi Real Snacks believes in the continuing popularity of tortilla chips and in addition to potato invests in corn-based products.

Real Snacks Oy located in the northern Ostrobothnian town of Pyhäntä believes in the popularity of TexMex-food. Some time ago the company introduced the market to the first tortilla chips produced in Finland. Real Snacks intends to expand its operations from potato processing to corn-based products.

Real Snacks anticipates the market of Finland's TexMex snacks to grow annually by 10 per cent. This is evident on the shelves of grocery stores, on which tortilla chips and other TexMex products occupy an increasingly wide space by the side of traditional potato chips and cheese snacks.

The company is familiar with the Finnish snack-market, as it produces private label products for instance for Pirkka, Rainbow and Eldorado brands. Four years ago the company decided to go forth with its own label, which is expected to increase its market share. The company's share of the Finnish snacks consumption is about 10 per cent.

Real Snacks Oy employs ten people in Pyhäntä. The company's turnover was nearly 2,3 million Euros last year. The company uses about 2,5 million kilograms of potatoes every year. While the potatoes are bought from potato farmers in nearby districts in Finland, the tortillas are produced from European corn.
