Rakla constructs a modern glass factory in Russia
Rakla.fi Rakla believes strongly that the demand of safety glass will continue to grow in Russia.Finland's largest wholesale business in the glass industry, Rakla Oy has established a subsidiary in Russia. The extent of the investment totals to approximately 25 million Euros. The modern factory, which will be built in St. Petersburg, aims at generating a ten million Euro turnover during the first year of operation.
ZAO Rakla will begin in St. Petersbug by refining fire-proof glass and glass plank systems. Later on the company will expand also to safety glass, which is in growing demand in Russia. The production, which kicks off in September, will take place in rented premises, but by 2011 ZAO Rakla aims at building Europe's most modern glass refinery in St. Peterburg.
Russia is the most promising, growing market in glass construction in the whole of Europe. Although the construction of the business premises has been held up by the recession, is residential open building still on upward spiral in Russia. There have been a few large scale building projects which have been started recently in St. Petersburg region.
Russia has a lot of space for SMB building companies. This is a great time for establishing a foundation for business activity since the investments are affordable and the market is in the process of revival. Rakla has operated in Finland persistently and profitably for the last eight years. Russia is our next growth market, says the CEO of Rakla Finland Oy, Heikki Silfver.
ZAO Rakla has also signed a three-year sales contract with Pilkington, one the world's biggest glass manufacturers. The contract covers glass business in north-east Russia.
