’Purge’ by Sofi Oksanen wins Nordic Council Literature Prize for 2010

The Finnish author Sofi Oksanen has won the Nordic Council Literature Prize 2010 for her third novel 'Puhdistus' (‘Purge’). The Literature Prize is worth 350,000 Danish kroner, which equals to 47 000 euros. The prize will be presented in Reykjavik in November.

‘Puhdistus’ has sold already 142 400 copies in Finland and it is the first novel that has won both, Finlandia and Runeberg Awards

The novel’s Swedish translation came out in the beginning of the year. It was translated by Janina Orlov and published by Albert Bonniers Förlag. The book received such mind-blowing critique in Sweden that it has been predicted to win even the Nobel Prize in Literature.
 
The translation rights for ‘Puhdistus’ have been sold to 24 European countries and the United States, Brazil and Israel. The English language translation will be published in the United Sates on April 1st by Grove Press.
