Pöyry engineers paper mill for SAICA Containerboard UK

Pöyry has been awarded an engineering contract by SAICA Containerboard UK Ltd for one of the world's most advanced recycled paper mills to be built at Partington Wharfside, near Manchester. The value of Pöyry's new assignment is about 5 million Euros.

The new paper mill is scheduled to be opened at the beginning of 2012. Its annual production will be 425 000 tons of high performance lightweight fluting and testliner grades to be used in the manufacture of corrugated boxes. The 100 per cent recycled fibre-based paper mill incorporates the best available boardmaking technology including low energy and fresh water consumption.

SAICA is the biggest Spanish paper and board manufacturer and has cooperated with Pöyry in a number of projects. The company has paper machines in Zaragoza and El Burgo de Ebro in Spain and in France.
