Pöyry acquires Hungarian nuclear power engineering company ETV

Pöyry has acquired Hungary's largest privately owned power sector consulting and engineering company ETV-Eröterv. ETV's product range comprises nuclear and conventional power plant engineering, services for radioactive waste related projects as well as full scale designing services in the area of transmission and distribution. The company's net sales in 2009 totaled approximately 12 million euro and it employs 170 experts.

- By combining ETV's profound knowledge of the Russian nuclear power plant technology and Pöyry's existing expertise we will be able to cover all major nuclear reactor technologies, says Ari Asikainen, President of Energy Business Group at Pöyry.

Pöyry is one of the world's leading independent engineering consultants in the nuclear sector. Together with ETV, Pöyry pursues an even stronger position especially in the Eastern European market. Pöyry's services cover the entire lifecycle and all relevant aspects of nuclear energy, from early development phases to construction, operation, decommissioning and spent fuel disposal.

The low life-cycle carbon emissions make nuclear power an increasingly viable alternative in global energy production. Pöyry estimates that approximately 150 nuclear power plants are currently planned and designed worldwide. The company reports to be in the process of actively enhancing its capabilities to be well positioned to serve the growing nuclear sector.
