Playful Finnish design on show in New York

Playful New Finnish Design- event introduces brand new design concepts by individual designers and companies. The event will be held on May 15-18th as part of the Meatpacking District Design 2009 -fair in Manhattan, New York. The exhibition will be peppered throughout the neighbourhood in recycled shipping containers serving as mini design showrooms.

The exhibition features designers and companies such as Artek, Durat, Molok, Marimekko, Korpi Design, Outo Wear, Saas Instruments and Ivana Helsinki, boasting a wide array of design items and concepts from furniture to fashion and video The central theme, which will be revolving around environment and innovation, creativity and education, is highlighted by a series of events, a seminar and workshops for both adults and children. One of the many activities will bring children to a musical instrument making workshop, which will be operated by solar energy.

Playful is part of a three-year series presenting new Finnish design in North America. The event is organized by Design Forum Finland; the Consulate General of Finland, New York; and the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York. Last year’s event, Hardcore New Finnish Design, brought 5000 visitors to the Meatpacking District Design Week during its three days.
