Outotec to provide slag concentration technology for Chile

outotec Outotec technology can also be found in Chile for example in Outokumpu’s Escondida copper solvent extraction plant.
Outotec is to supply technology for the leading copper producer in the world, the Chilean company Codelco, in connection with the slag concentrator used at the Potrerillos copper smelter that the company is having built.  The contract is worth some ten million euros.

The order includes two grinding mills, flotation cells and a pressure filter as well as spare parts.  In addition Outotec will handle installation and training.

Located in Northern Chile, the  Potrerillos smelter will use Codelco converter technology for further refining copper after the smelting. The slag from this process contains 8-11% of copper. In the new concentrator the slag will then be processed to maximize copper recovery. The new plant will process 1,700 tonnes of slag per day.

Deliveries are expected to take place during 2012.
