Outotec has signed a contract with the world’s main copper producer, Chile's Codelco, for the design and delivery of a wastewater treatment plant for the new Mina Ministro Hales mining project in Calama, northern Chile. The contract price is approximately 18 million euros.
The turnkey project includes design, supply of proprietary process equipment, installation, start up services and training.
The new treatment plant complements an earlier 116 million euro contract Outotec made with Codelco in 2010 for a copper concentrate roasting plant, gas cleaning system and sulphuric acid plant. The new plant will treat the effluent from those processes.
The whole plant will have an annual capacity up to 550,000 tonnes of concentrate, and is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2013.
