Outotec delivers furnaces to Zambia

Konkola Copper Mines Chingola smelter produces approximately 300 000 tonnes of copper per annum.
Outotec has received an order from Konkola Copper Mines for the delivery of the third electric furnace for the Chingola copper smelter in Zambia. The order value is approximately 13 million euro.

The order is a continuation of Outotec's earlier delivery of a copper smelter based on the unique Direct to Blister application of Flash Smelting technology. In addition to Chingola the technology is used by two other smelters in the world

The process enables the production of blister copper directly from concentrates without the converting phase, bringing considerable savings in both investment and operating costs while minimizing the emissions. The new electric furnace scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2011 will significantly improve the cobalt recovery of the Chingola smelter.
