Outotec delivers an iron ore sinter plant to India

SAIL Bhilai factory has specialized in manufacturing heavyweight steel industry products, such as rail tracks.
Outotec has won an order from Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) for the design and delivery of an iron ore sinter plant for SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant located in Chhattisgarh state, India.

Outotec will implement the turnkey plant project in consortium with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. The contract value has not been disclosed, but typically technology solutions of this scope range from 20 to 25 million euro.

The new sinter plant is part of an expansion program with an intention of increasing SAIL's annual production capacity to seven million tonnes of crude steel. Outotec's scope of delivery covers engineering of the sinter plant, supply of proprietary and key equipment and technical services.

Larsen & Toubro will be in charge of the local components and site construction works. The sinter plant’s annual capacity is 3.7 million tonnes and it is expected to become operational in 2012.
