Outokumpu stainless steel has EU’s smallest carbon footprint
Outokumpu The world’s largest stainless steel manufacturing plant is located in the Tornio.In the last ten years Outokumpu has managed to reduce its direct carbon dioxide emissions by 25 percent per ton of stainless steel produced. Outokumpu targets a further 20 percent reduction by 2020
Outokumpu has recently published a new Energy and Low-carbon programme, which targets an annual reduction of approximately 370 000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions totalling 2 200 000 tons during the programme period, calculated against current capacity and products.
– The proportion of recycled material in our products is already a lot higher than the global average, and our ferrochrome production is a world leader in energy efficiency and in controlling its carbon dioxide emissions, says CEO Juha Rantanen.
Outokumpu is headquartered in Espoo, Finland and it is one of the world’s leading producers of stainless steel. The company owns the world’s largest stainless steel manufacturing plant, which is located in the municipality of Tornio in Northern Finland.
