The world’s first opera produced by an online community is set to premiere on Saturday in Savonlinna.

Hundreds of people all over the world have participated in making the opera Free Will which will be streamed live at 7pm.

Opera By You online community has helped to write the libretto, compose the music and design the sets and costumes.

The Savonlinna Opera Festival has placed world-class soloists, a chorus of 80, a symphony orchestra and its entire production machinery at the community’s disposal.

The result is extremely beautiful melodic music. A strong and opinionated story, stylish and surprising visualization and staging, which activates the audience, will affect the viewers, says Head of Production Päivi Salmi.

Free Will is about a fight between good and evil in the year 2012. Three genii, Mozart, Oscar Wilde and Joan of Arc, take the leading roles. The fourth lead is Lucifer.

In the opera God has had enough of all the misery which people are suffering from and calls a meeting with the angels. They decide to send a couple of dead genii back to Earth to make things better.
