One in five cottages on the Internet

Finns are making their summer cottages more functional. One in five cottage owners have equipped their leisure-time residence with a broadband connection, more than 70 per cent of which have a wireless router. This information came to light in a questionnaire carried out by the telecom operator DNA.

Surprisingly, broadband is especially important to the older generations. With the help of wireless routers cottage dwellers follow world events and their emails, and they also pay bills. A quarter say that they need a connection in order to do telework. The use of a wireless router at cottages is being boosted by the rapid expansion of the 3G network in various parts of the country.

“Middle-aged and older people use a broadband connection more than others for teleworking from their leisure-time residence. People of this age probably want to equip these residences to the level of a second home. They are also at the stage of life where they can determine their own schedules and working methods more freely,” says Pekka Väisänen, VP Consumer Business at DNA.
