Nokia’s Ovi Store to challenge Google and Microsoft

nokia.com
Nokia trusts that its recently opened online Store Ovi will develop into a real success story. Niklas Savander, the Head of Nokia Services, is assured that Ovi Store will gain a greater popularity than its competitors. Ovi Store is challenged for instance by Microsoft, Google and Research in Motion, RIM which is a Canadian company producing Blackberry devices.

-It’s all about volumes and critical masses. If Ovi Store attracts 200 million users, it means that we are speaking of a much more interesting product than for instance a service attracting only 10 million users, tells Savander in an interview by the Swedish news service E24.

Savander thinks that Nokia’s 40 per cent market share in the mobile phone market will help to bring the company into a leading position also in the mobile service sector. He admits that pricing is the most essential component in the service business competition. For that reason Nokia develops also services for illiterate people in developing countries.

Nokia is also planning to invest strongly in the United States, where the company currently has only a ten per cent share of the mobile phone market. Nokia showcases its new models in North America in the serious attempt to conquer the American markets.
