Nokia Siemens Networks strengthens its global position
NOKIA Through acquiring the wireless infrastructure assets of Motorola NSN becomes the third biggest network vendor in the United States, and the biggest foreign wireless vendor in Japan.Nokia Siemens Networks will acquire the majority of Motorola's wireless network infrastructure assets. The value of the acquisition is 1.2 billion US dollars, paid in cash.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen NSN's position especially in the United States and Japan. As part of the transaction, Nokia Siemens Networks expects to continue as the supplier of more than Motorola 50 network operators and to strengthen its position with China Mobile, Clearwire, KDDI, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone.

According to a Nokia Siemens Networks' revenue-based estimate, with the addition of the Motorola wireless network infrastructure business, NSN will become the third biggest wireless infrastructure vendor in the United States and the biggest foreign wireless vendor in Japan. At the same time the company strengthens its current position as the second biggest global wireless network infrastructure provider.
Approximately 7,500 employees are expected to transfer to Nokia Siemens Networks from Motorola's wireless network infrastructure business when the transaction closes. The acquisition includes large research and development sites in the United States, China and India. Motorola retains its iDEN business, majority of the patents related to its wireless network infrastructure business and other specified assets.
