Nokia reclaims top spot in “Greener Electronics” list

Nokia reclaimed the top spot in Greenpeace’s latest ranking of consumer electronic companies in the first quarter of the year. The results were published in Greenpeace’s latest “Guide to Greener Electronics” report.

Nokia scored full points for its mobile phone recycling programme which is in place already in 84 countries. There are nearly 5000 recycling points available to the public. Three top places on the Greener Electronics list belong to mobile phone companies. Samsung followed Nokia as second in the ranking, while Sony Ericsson dropped to the third place. Philips climbed up from the 11th place to the fourth. Apple was the 10th, which was four places higher than before, while ranking as the greenest of the PC-manufacturers.

Greenpeace follows the environmental practices of 17 world’s biggest consumer electronics companies. Emphasis is laid on global practices, responsible use of hazardous chemicals and the disposal of the electronic devices. The list is published quarterly and is hoped to motivate companies to develop products, which are more environmentally friendly. Greenpeace’s research is based on information published by the companies.
