Nokia opens a global million dollar Growth Economy Venture Challenge

Nokia Developing markets are a central part of Nokia’s operations.
Nokia has announced a global million dollar venture challenge to encourage innovators to create a mobile product or service that enhances the quality of living in developing countries. The winner of the competition will win a one million dollar award. The Growth Economy Venture Challenge was announced by CEO of Nokia, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo on January 7th at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

According to Kallasvuo mobile solutions can benefit those living in developing countries and at the same time, be profitable, leading to financial "win-win" scenarios for both innovators and consumers.

The competition will consider any innovation that enhances the target growth economy, at the same time providing a potential return on the investment. The Venture Challenge is not limited to software or hardware that uses Nokia device or software platforms. Submissions can also expand beyond mobile phone solutions.

The million dollar award will be invested in a single winning organization with the best idea. Additionally, ten finalists will be invited to present their ideas and business models to a panel of Nokia business people and private venture capitalists.

The Venture Challenge finalists will be announced in May and the final winner in June, 2010. The deadline for submissions is April 18, 2010.
