Nokia and Intel open a research centre in Oulu

City of Oulu The joint research laboratory of Nokia and Intel will operate at the Centre for Internet Excellence at the University of Oulu.
Nokia and the world’s largest microprocessor manufacturer Intel have established a new, collaboratively owned and run laboratory at the Centre for Internet Excellence at the University of Oulu in Finland. The laboratory focuses on developing new mobile user interfaces and improving their user experience.

One of the research projects is 3D technology research. One of the future applications of the new technology will be for instance the projection of the caller’s picture on the phone screen.

– 3D technology can transform the way in which we use mobile devices, and make their user experience much deeper. Our new joint research laboratory with Intel utilizes the 3D expertise of the Oulu research community. Over time our cooperation will create a foundation for future mobile experiences, says Vice
President and CTO of Nokia, Rich Green.  

In the early stages the new research laboratory which will be opened at the University of Oulu employs about twenty researchers.
