Niko nominated as the Best European Film Academy Animated Film 2009
Nordisk filmFinnish animation movie Niko & the Way to the Stars has been nominated as one of the three candidates for a Best Animated Film 2009 by the European Film Academy EFA. The members of EFA will vote the Best Animated Film, which is a brand new category, included in the competition for the very first time. The European Film Awards Ceremony will be held on December 12th in Bochum, Germany.
In February Niko & the Way to the Stars won in categories Best Movie and Best Script in Jussi-gala in Finland. It also won the jury's and voters' first prize at the Cinekid-festival in the Netherlands in October last year. On top of all these acknowledgements, the French Le Film Francais-magazine has chosen Niko as the third best European movie in 2008.
Niko & the Way to the Stars will be re-premiered next weekend in Finnish cinemas. The film has already been viewed by 231,770 cinema goers. Niko will be launched on DVD on December 2nd 2009.
Niko & the Way to the Stars is the adventure tale about the young reindeer Niko who is still learning how to fly. He sets out for a quest to find his father, a famous member of the legendary Santa Flying Forces.
Reindeer youngster Niko's story was produced by Petteri Pasanen and Hannu Tuomainen, written by Hannu Tuomainen ja Marteinn Thorisoon and directed by Cannes-winner Kari Juusonen and Michael Hegner. Niko has attracted 1,5 million viewers internationally, out of which 600,000 in France. Niko's next premier will take in place in German cinemas on November 5th 2009. The movie's distribution rights have been sold to over 100 countries.
