New sauna innovations welcome in Jyväskylä
The Finnish sauna culture is being productized in Jyväskylä. The project seeks to invent new and surprising service concepts around sauna.
The initiative, which is put into practice by Jykes Ltd., the Centre for Tourism and Experience Production (MEK) at Jyväskylä University of Applied Science and the part-taking companies, carries the title ’Sauna from Finland’. The new concept is designed to bring together entrepreneurs from different fields of expertise, inspiring them to come up with fresh, new product- and service concepts around sauna.
The aim is to use brand new concepts and innovations in bringing the deeply traditional sauna culture of Finland to the wider public. Synergetic solutions can be found for instance from building industry, tourism and wellness sector.
- By creating a profile around something, the expertise and range of service supply increase. Sauna fits excellently inside the concept of wellness travel. For instance pensioners will become a very significant group requiring wellness services the whole year round, comments Mikko Lehtonen, the chief manager of MEK, on the website of Jykes Ltd.
Jykes Ltd. and the newspaper Keskisuomalainen launched their sauna-project last Saturday. It started with a public competition, where the readers were invited to offer their own sauna-related stories and photos. Material from the competition may be utilized for designing some of the ‘Sauna from Finland’ marketing material.
