New industrial valve factory for Metso in Vantaa

The Finnish production and administrative functions of Metso’s industrial valves will be moved from Helsinki to Vantaa in Finland at the beginning of 2011. Metso’s Automation business line will lease about 22,000 m2 of production facilities in Hakkila, Vantaa under a long-term agreement with real estate investment company Sponda Plc, the builder of the factory.

The new facilities will bring more efficiency to the production process and will improve the requisites for further developing quality and delivery capability. Additionally, all Metso employees in sales, product development and support functions in Roihupelto, Helsinki, will move to the Hakkila facilities.

- In Finland we have strong product development, engineering and manufacturing know-how in special valves intended for demanding applications. The decision on the new premises sends a positive message to our employees and partners: We will continue serving oil, gas, process and pulp and paper customers from Finland, emphasizes Metso’s Markku Simula, President, Flow Control business unit, Automation business line.

The relocation is estimated to incur an extra one-time costs of about EUR 4 million.

Metso is also strengthening standard valve production and customer service in growing markets, particularly in China. In spring 2010, production and office facilities for about 650 people will be completed in Shanghai and will accommodate Metso’s valve production in China. Metso has valve production and supplying also in Central Europe and in North and South America.
