New European Batteries factory opened in Varkaus
European Batteries The recently opened European Batteries factory brings also new jobs to the town of Varkaus.European Batteries Oy's 10 000 square metre factory in the town of Varkaus has been inaugurated. The factory is the first independent large battery system production facility in Europe. According to the company the 40-million-euro Varkaus project is one of Finland's largest new industrial projects.
The factory manufactures large, lithium-ion based battery packs and systems especially for the vehicle industry. Tightening environmental regulations have accelerated the demand on battery systems, and no other company in Europe manufactures large battery cells of similar type. The annual production capacity of the factory is 100 megawatt hours- an amount sufficient for equipping for instance 3 000 full-electric cars.
European Batteries employs 65 professionals, 44 of which work at the 10 000 square meter Varkaus factory. The company has high hopes for the future; it has already started planning on tripling both its production capacity and the number of employees once the factory extension is completed.
