Neste Jacobs and Eesti Energia modernize Estonia’s shale oil condensation

US DPT OF ENERGY The use of oil shale as an energy source has strained the environment of Estonia and the neighboring regions. Through modernization the emissions resulting from the process will reduce significantly.
Subsidiary of Finnish oil refining and marketing company Neste Oil, Neste Jacobs will act as an engineering partner for a new shale oil condensation unit in Estonia. Neste Jacobs and Eesti Energia Õlitööstus signed the engineering and construction management contract on April 28th 2010.
 
The shale oil condensation unit purifies and fractions the shale oil vapor gas mixture, reducing harmful emissions significantly. The new unit is part of Enefit-280 project. The project is scheduled to continue until the end of 2012.

– This contract is very important and notable step for Neste Jacobs, and it creates a possibility for long-term partnership, says Neste Jacobs CEO Jarmo Suominen.

– Enefit-280 project and this agreement are the first major investment for Eesti Energia which advances cleaner and efficient shale oil technology, says CMO Lauri Hink from Eesti Energia Õlitööstus AS.
