Millennium Youth Camp 2010 welcomes youth from all over the world
Lehtikuva / Martti Kainulainen Millennium Youth Camp is for 16-19 year old youth who share an interest for instance on mathematics and information technology.The very first international Millennium Youth Camp will take place in Helsinki next June. A total of 995 youth from all continents submitted an application for the camp. On the basis of these applications 30 participants will be chosen.
The camp is organized by Finnish LUMA Centre, Technology Academy of Finland TAF, the Ministry of Education and the Centre for School Clubs in association with the University of Helsinki. Researchers from the university will take part in mentoring the youth.
The camp is intended for young, 16-19 year old enthusiasts of natural science, information technology and technology. Most of the applicants showed interest on climate change research, for which 226 applications were submitted. The application deadline was in November.
The main themes of the camp are environmental science and technology, renewable natural resources, renewable energy, information and communication technology, digitalization and applied mathematics. The camp will last for one week. The programme includes lectures, workshops, visits to companies and universities, as well as free time for socializing with other participants. One of the highlights of the camp is the Millennium-gala, which the youth will be able to take part in.
Millennium Youth Camp will be opened at the Kumpula Science Centre on June 7th 2010.
