Stora Enso
Metso, Stora Enso and Domtar have joined forces in developing a future pulp mill biorefinery based on new pulping technology. The target of the project, which is expected to continue for several years, is to develop a new concept with improved energy and cost efficiency, lower capital investment costs, and reduced fibre usage.

According to the companies the project offers promising opportunities for a breakthrough in sustainable chemical pulping technology.

The project is in line with the strategic R&D targets set by Finnish, Swedish and North American forest clusters, which are to renew the industry, to utilise natural raw-materials efficiently, to protect the environment and to improve cost efficiency.

Each of the partners brings different kind of expertise into the project. Metso is a supplier of sustainable technology and services for mining, construction, power generation, automation, recycling and the pulp and paper industries. Stora Enso Oyj is a renowned manufacturer of pulp, paper, board, bio-energy and other wood based materials, chemicals and products, while Domtar Corporation is the world’s second largest integrated manufacturer and marketer of uncoated freesheet paper. It also manufactures paper grade, fluff and specialty pulp and is an expert in manufacturing and using chemical pulp in paper making.
