Mendor launches new all-in-one blood glucose monitor
Mendor Mendor’s blood glucose meter looks like an MP3 player.According to Mendor the new meter helps diabetics to follow their blood glucose levels independent of time and place. The company didn’t want the meter to look like a medical device, and reports that young diabetics have been very enthusiastic about the new meter, which looks like an MP3 player.
The meter has already received the European Conformity marking, or CE Mark, which indicates that the product complies with all applicable EU directives, and that it has undergone all the necessary inspections.
– We are delighted that Mendor Discreet has been approved to carry the CE Mark. Our product underwent rigorous independent testing at Finland’s largest private diabetes clinic in Helsinki and the results demonstrated that it met and exceeded the ISO 15197 requirements. Up to 92 percent of users preferred it to their current BGM, comments the Vice President and Co-Founder of Mendor, Kristian Ranta.
The meter use is supported by internet-based Mendor Balance software, which has a purpose of facilitating the analysis of the measurements, and the sharing of the information with healthcare personnel. It also helps to recognise possible problem areas.
Mendor was founded in 2005 with the business idea to design and market blood glucose meters and software for the daily treatment of diabetes. The company originates to the idea of five university students after succeeding in Venture Cup, a national business plan competition. In June 2010 the company was chosen among the 30 most promising technology companies in the Nordic countries and the Baltic in the Nordic Tech Tour competition. Mendor has been supported for instance by the Foundation for Finnish Inventions, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation Tekes and Finnvera.
